Official channels first

This site is not the ombudsman. ZIP codes, mail status, and official rumor control live with the command. San Diego Fleet & Family scheduling: 1-866-923-6478.

How to mail a carrier

  1. 1. Use the sailor's FPO AP address. Rank/rate, full name, ship, unit/division if you have it, FPO AP, and the ZIP the ombudsman or sailor gave you. Never a commercial “ship to port” vendor.
  2. 2. Check the ZIP before you buy postage. Some land APO codes in the Middle East have been USPS-suspended since March 2026. Military Times reported ships were not on that list — still run the five-digit ZIP through the restrictions tool, then Click-N-Ship for the customs form.
  3. 3. Keep it small and dry. Toothpaste, deodorant (stick, not aerosol), soap, menstrual products, letters, printed photos. No perishables, no loose lithium, no alcohol.
  4. 4. Log the tracking number. Family watch will hold it. If a parcel is silent for 60 days, send a duplicate and file a missing-mail note with your ombudsman — the current pipeline has been losing packages for months.
  5. 5. If you cannot mail, fund the people who can. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, USO, Operation Gratitude, Soldiers' Angels. A pledge in this app is not a shipment.

FPO address builder

Format it the way USPS expects. The ZIP is not public — get it from your sailor or the ombudsman.

Carriers do not accept Amazon, UPS, or FedEx. Official mail is USPS to FPO AP. Never invent the ZIP — use the one your sailor or ombudsman gave you. Then run that ZIP through the USPS Military Restrictions tool: some land APO codes in the Middle East have been suspended since March 2026. Military Times reported ships were not on that suspension list, but operational mail is still sporadic.
